The Indoor Bowling Club |
Closure of the Parish Bowling Club 2022
On behalf of the Parish Bowling Club, the committee members, represented by chairperson, Mrs
Shirley Earley, secretary, John Fenton, and William McFarland, have, after much discussion, agreed to close the club due to the decline in membership numbers over the past few years.
The Parish Bowling Club opened on 3rd May 1955 using the assembly hall in Glengormley Primary
School and formed with the Church of Ireland bowling teams. Bowling continued over the decades until we were informed in March 2020 by the Irish Indoor Bowling Association that, due to the pandemic, bowling clubs and leagues were being closed. Since then, our club membership numbers have decreased further, and despite several appeals for additional members, we have sadly been unsuccessful. It is with the utmost regret that the club will therefore not be opening for the new season.
I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has been involved in the club over the years and wish you all well for the future.
Community Bowling
However, despite the closure of the club Community Bowling does continue on Thursday mornings at 10am in the main hall. Everybody is welcome to come along and join in.
