Sunday 28th February 2021 - 2nd Sunday of Lent
Rev. Andy Heber & Rev. Carol Harvey
John & Rene Fenton, Robert & Ann Campbell, Shirley Early & Organist David Rutherford

Today rather than using our normal service of the word we are using some new material put together from a special service of the word provided by the Church of Ireland for use during this pandemic and also from the Worship in the Wilderness material we are following during Lent. The liturgy is below:

Our help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth.
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.

As we gather in this time of illness and infection, of isolation, fear, and uncertainty We come to you, faithful Father, slowing down, taking a deeper breath. Thank you that we do not need to earn our way into your presence, but that we can come simply, through Jesus, by your Holy Spirit. We pause. We acknowledge your presence, and we trust you to feed us by your Word today. Amen.

When we cry out to the Lord in our trouble, he will deliver us from our distress. God will bring us out of darkness into his marvellous light.
In a dark and disfigured world, we have not held out the light of life.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
In a hungry and despairing world, we have failed to share our bread
Christ, have mercy. Christ have mercy.
In a cold and loveless world, we have kept the love of God to ourselves
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, Have mercy on you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Praise God! For the Lord our God the Almighty Reigns.
Let us rejoice and be glad and give him the glory.
Happy are those who have been invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.
Amen. Praise the Lord!

Collect for 2nd Sunday in Lent
Almighty God, by the prayer and discipline of Lent may we enter into the mystery of Christ’s sufferings, and by following in his Way come to share in his glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
First Reading: Romans 4:13-25
Psalm 63
Second Reading: Luke 4:1-13
Sermon: Carol Harvey
Let us declare our faith in God:
We believe in God the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named.
We believe in God the Son, who lives in our hearts through faith,
and fills us with his love.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us with power from on high.
We believe in one God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Final Prayer
God, as we go from this place make us a people who are content in all circumstances: in crowds or alone, with much or with little, well-fed or hungry.
May your presence, your provision and your bread of life be enough for us.
In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

God grant to the living grace, to the departed rest, to the Church and to the nations peace and concord; and the blessing.
May The Lord bless us and protect us,
We go into the world to walk in God’s light, to rejoice in God’s love and to reflect God’s glory.  Amen.

"Blessed are the Merciful" - Tuesday 23rd February 2021
"Blessed are the Merciful for they will be shown mercy." This 5th Beautitude challenges us to put ourselves in the others' shoes and act mercifully, with Christ as our example, even when it is costly.

Rev. Andy Heber
